After the last "Green Lantern" movie did not fare well at the box office, DC comics is looking to reboot the struggling franchise. With that said, rumors are starting to surface that "Fast and Furious" and "Transformer" star Tyrese Gibson has had several meetings with Warner Bros Studio with regard the possibility of the actor playing the Green Lantern John Stewart.

The talks could be serious, according to Gibson, as he told Collider that he has had several meetings with Warner Bros executives about the project. Gibson states that he thinks that there should be more black super heroes and that John Stewart is one of the most iconic black super heroes in the DC comics universe.

However, is Gibson a big enough star to handle a stand-alone "Green Lantern" movie? While he has had key parts in blockbuster movies before, his role was more of a comedic sidekick and not as a leading man. According Gibson, he is a big enough star to draw fans to watch the film. He also claimed that the $6 billion sales his movies made are sufficient box office accomplishments for him to be able to make any character interesting.

Comic book fans would know that John Stewart is more of a straight arrow type of character as opposed to Hal Jordan's more laid back approach. Many critics of the actor do not think he has the acting range to pull off a superhero like Stewart.

The part may have to wait, however, as the Green Lantern character is not supposed to play a major role in the Justice League movie that is due out in 2017. Warner Bros executives have the luxury of time on their side and do not want to rush any product that may be found inferior or pick the wrong actor for the part, ala Ryan Renyolds in the first "Green Lantern" movie.

According to Rope of Silicon, the Green Lantern movie will be officially called "The Green Lantern Corps" and may not center on one particular Green Lantern. Gibson may be casted as Stewart and then given a minor role as the main Green Lantern could once again be Hal Jordan.

"Green Lantern Corps" is set to debut in 2020, so any report on who is playing the character remains unconfirmed. Gibson's assurance that he is a lead candidate for the role sounds more of a sales pitch than anything else. So, fans of the comic will just have to see what really does pan out in the end.
