After being sent back to the barracks, in a manner of speaking, has Roman Reigns’ recall finally paid off? Better yet, is he prepped and ready to step into the limelight and become the new face of the WWE?
Reigns would have been just that if not for some backlash from the WWE Universe seeing that the wrestler lacked some important attributes that could make him the new star the WWE. That included his lack of charisma when the microphone was in his hands and the fact that most of his matches were predictable (in his favor, of course).
Of the two issues, Reigns cannot be faulted for the second one unless the WWE Creative Team comes up with something to distort Reigns from always coming out victorious. Had Reigns carried all of that, chances are he would be the WWE Champion. Let us take a short runback on Reigns’ run.
Reigns was easily being groomed towards the WWE title picture until that WWE Royal Rumble triumph which drew lots of criticism. The return of Daniel Bryan could have added to that run considering the bearded one is an established favorite.
So with a surprising return, everyone wanted Bryan to win the rumble. Per storylines, however, Reigns was already the one to win it all. With that up in the air, Reigns and Bryan faced off at WWE Fastlane. As expected, Reigns won and this finally set up the stage between him and Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 31.
Though the main card had been set, there was still something not right. The WWE Universe was still divided on whether Reigns is a fit champion and new face of the company.
The clash was a classic. Both Reigns and Lesnar threw in everything they had and it seemed that Reigns was set to become champion. That was until Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and practically stole the WWE title right from under both fighters.
Since then, Reigns has been on and off the WWE title picture. The latest news is his ongoing feud with Bray Wyatt and possibly the resurrection of the Wyatt Family.
There were questions prior to WWE Battleground on whether the feud would end or not. Reigns has been improving behind the mic and is now seen as someone who is not indestructible anymore. To make sure, the WWE seems to want Reigns to continue to work on it seeing that the former Shield member is benefitting largely from it.
Though it hasn’t been announced yet, it is likely that Reigns and Wyatt will square off again at WWE SummerSlam. On whether this would be a singles or tag match remains to be seen.
While everyone saw that Luke Harper has re-aligned himself with Wyatt, there are rumors afloat that Reigns could be getting help soon and it won’t be from his buddy Dean Ambrose.
Word has it that Sting could be returning and will be helping Reigns out in this one, something that will surely be worth the watch. However, it would be best to wait and see if Sting will make a return first.
To date, there are still no matches officially made for WWE Summer Slam which will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Aug 23, 2015.
