The highly anticipated fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Miguel Cotto may finally have an actual date – Thanksgiving weekend.

Apparently, this is the latest from the rumor mill as both fighters will star in what Oscar Dela Hoya bills as worth watching. There are actually two dates that both camps are reportedly considering. These are either on November 21 or November 28 where the fight is most likely to be aired on HBO via pay-per-view.

With the date practically whittled down, attention now shifts on where the fight will take place. Among the venues being considered are New York City, Las Vegas and Texas although it is believed that the fight will likely be held at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This would mark remarkable headway considering that the camps of both Alvarez and Cotto were already in deep talks as early as last year. However, with Cotto taking his sweet time in what many presume was a delaying tactic in case he would be chosen to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr last May, the talks fizzled out.

As it turned out, Alvarez ended up facing James Kirland who the Mexican knocked out in the third round. Meanwhile, Cotto never got the chance at a rematch against Mayweather who opted to face Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao instead. The Puerto Rican boxing champion ended up facing Daniel Geale whom he conquered with a TKO win.

With a few more things to iron out, the fight which Golden Boy promoter Oscar Dela Hoya calls as a worthy mega bout to watch compared to the supposed fight of the century between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Further to that, boxing fans don’t have to shell out outrageous amounts to catch the fight. Apparently, Dela Hoya was referring to the expensive prices of the pay-per-view and tickets that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao amounted to.

Of course, the most important part of it all is that the fight will showcase two fighters who will surely get it on. Compared to the boring duel between Mayweather and Pacquiao, the Cotto-Alvarez card is expected to be one explosive affair.

Looking forward though, a boxer who is expected to keep tabs of the fight is Kazakh KO artist Gennady Golovkin.

Golovkin will likely face the winner of the Alvarez-Cotto match though there are some things to consider first before going that far.

One is that Cotto seems wary of facing Golovkin and becoming the next KO victim. Further to that, trainer Freddie Roach reasons out that Golovkin has not yet established a fan base to make a Cotto vs. Golovkin match lucrative.

For Alvarez, it remains to be known if the Mexican fighter would be willing to face Golovkin as well.

Of the two however, Golovkin admits that he is bound to encounter more difficulty against Alvarez.

"Maybe Canelo (will be the toughest challenger for me). He's young, new style, new situation" says Golovkin during an interview.

Again, this would be looking too much ahead. The winner has to be determined first between Alvarez and Cotto. Once that happens, Golovkin can enter the fray for talks between his camp and the winner of that highly awaited matchup this November.
