A couple days ago, Game Informer blew the lid off more Grand Theft Auto 5 details than Rockstar had revealed in the entire past year. Their December issue features an 18-page spread on Grand Theft Auto 5 that elicits some of the new changes and improvements that gamers will see in the series' latest installment. Among them - improved combat and driving mechanics.
Guns and shooting have always been central to the Grand Theft Auto series, but this time around, even melee combat should be vastly improved.
"It's better than we've had in the past. How far we can push it - we will see how much resources we allocate to it. It's never going to be as big a deal as shooting with the way that we make the game, but we do want it to feel really fun and strong," said Rockstar's vice president of creativity Dan Houser to Game Informer.
Cars always felt a little fake in early Grand Theft Auto games, but Grand Theft Auto 4 took a step in the right direction by adding some real weight and differentiation to different cars. Grand Theft Auto 5 will take it one step further, claims Houser.
"The cars hold to the ground a bit better. We thought they were big and boatlike in GTA IV, and we feel like it has really leaped forward because we're able to run a little more physics on them. There are not a lot of high level racing games out there at the moment, and that itch is going to be scratched by this game in a way maybe it hasn't been in previous GTAs," Houser writes.
Grand Theft Auto 5 will feature three main protagonists that users can swap between at any time, even during missions. The world of Los Santos will also be the biggest open world Rockstar has created yet. You can pre-order the game now for a spring 2013 release.
