Well, it seems that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is serious about the opponents he mentioned, no matter what the world thinks.
No offense to both fighters but according to the Sweet Science, Andre Berto could be the chosen one to face off against the undefeated American boxer this coming September 12 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas and that the match would be shown over at CBS, Showtime’s parent company.
This remains a rumor and anonymous people from the Times categorized the Sweet Science claim as premature.
But assuming that the tiff does materialize, one can almost expect a big howl from the boxing world.
Berto, (30-3 with 23 KOs) is hardly what most people would call a worthy fighter and someone that falls along the lines of being a ‘solid’ opponent.
And such could be the reason why Berto has opted to remain mum on the matter, although he doesn’t hide the fact that he is looking forward to fighting Mayweather in about two months.
Berto and another fighter, Karim Mayfield, were the only ones mentioned as possible opponents by Floyd Mayweather Jr. though some people thought that the unbeaten boxer was just playing around.
Most believe that Amir Khan is a logical choice to face off Mayweather, another southpaw that deserves to be in the ring with Floyd Jr. Recall that in May, Floyd Jr. hacked out a unanimous decision victory over Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.
While the report by the writer of Sweet Science is still under scrutiny, it seems that Khan himself has heard of the news and took it to Twitter.
Heard it's berto. Good luck to my boy berto he's a good kid regardless. https://t.co/Q5SzkBq7Tv

The official word should be known in the coming days or weeks but the bright side of it all is that it may indicate that Floyd Jr. is not hanging up his gloves just yet.
The task at hand for Mayweather Jr. is to match the 49-0 record of Rocky Marciano. Assuming that Berto does get the nod, there are some who believe that Mayweather will likely hold off any plans of retirement for another lucrative fight in 2016.
On who that could be is anyone’s guess although expect Amir Khan to be in the running. Manny Pacquiao is of course not to be discounted despite the disappointing show that both fighters gave out last May.
Other fighters worth mentioning are Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Gennady Golovkin, Timothy Bradley Jr. or even a rematch with Miguel Cotto or Canelo Alvarez.
Anyone of the above-mentioned fighters could get a chance to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., assuming that he does not retire after his scheduled match this coming September 12 against a yet-to-be-named opponent.
