Diablo 3 released earlier this year after an incredibly long wait since the series' last installment. Gamers ate it up, making it the fastest selling PC game in history, and now they have even more to be excited about: an expansion is in the works.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime revealed that an expansion for Diablo 3 is currently being developed, during an Activision Blizzard earnings call. Sadly, no specific release timeframe was given.
"I don't have any timeline to talk about," Morhaime said. "I think that the most important thing for us always comes down to the quality of the expansion and gameplay, and so that will be a big factor in terms of driving our schedule."
No other details about the expansion were given.
Morhaime also mentioned that sales of Diablo 3 have surpassed 10 million units, making it the North America's and Europe's best-selling PC game since its May release. Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million units in the first 24 hours after its launch.
There's some good news for StarCraft fans too. It looks like the second installment in the series, StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm is scheduled for a release in the first half of 2013. Sure, it getting close to three years since StarCraft: Wings of Liberty released, but a release time frame is better than none at all, especially from Blizzard. StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty has sold 6 million copies since its release, and you can expect a whole new influx of gamers once Heart of the Swarm is release. Heart of the Swarm follows the story of Sarah Kerrigan.
