Everyone's favorite intergalactic smuggler, Hans Solo, is finally getting his own movie. Starwars.com just recently released this information alongside who will direct, write and produce the film.
Christopher Miller and Phil Lord will direct Han Solo's movie. Miller and Lord are both exceptional directors with a long list of credits such as The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. Not to mention the duo were executive producers for the hit TV series How I Met Your Mother from 2005-2006. Lucasfilms and Disney did it again in hiring the most brilliant young minds to take care of their ever growing Star Wars universe.
As reported on Cinema Blend, the duo said that this would be the first film that seemed like a good idea. Miller and Lord pledged to take risks, give viewers a new feel to the movie, and to take care of the ever loved characters. They couldn't emphasize enough how much of a dream come true it is to be working on a Star Wars Film.
The screenplay is written by the father and son duo, Lawrence and John Kasdan. Lawrence is a heavyweight when it comes to writing and directing films. He wrote and directed Raiders of the Lost Arc starring Harrison Ford, The Big Chill, and Grand Canyon. Star Wars fans also know Lawrence Kasdan for co-writing The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens.
John Kasdan, on the other hand, is no push-over. He wrote and directed the movie The First Time, In the Land of Women, television series Freaks and Geeks, and Dawson's Creek.
The amount of talent in the teams of directors and writers are extraordinary that it got Kathleen Kennedy, who will produce the film, exited and looks forward to the results.
Kennedy said to Starwars.com: "It's not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I'm excited to say we've found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han's story."
As of now, the film has no cast yet. The only information that is known is that it will be the origin story of Han Solo and how he became the thief, scoundrel, and smuggler that we all love. Speculations also float around such as a possible appearance of Sana Solo, Han's wife, who made her debut on a recent Star Wars comics published by Marvel. Apparently, these publications are canon now.
The movie is scheduled to air on cinemas by the 25th of May 2018. Star Wars fans stay tuned for more information and may the force be with you!
