"We're back. You're welcome." That is the caption on Disney XD's new animated series: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Due to the movie's massive box office hit, Disney is capitalizing and moving the title to a new franchise. Just like the Avenger's animated series, Disney moves Guardians of the Galaxy in to the television screen while the second instalment is still far away. Until James Gunn finish creating Guardians of the Galaxy 2, the animated series will somehow fill in the blanks for the younger fans.
Story-wise, the series will still follow the same characters: Star-Lord voiced by Will Friedle from Boy Meets World, Groot voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson from The Cleveland Show, Drax the destroyer voiced by David Sovolov from Transformers: Prime, Rocket Raccoon voiced by Trevor Devall from Johnny Test, Gamora who is voiced by Vanessa Marshall from Star Wars: Rebels, and Yandu/Cosmo who is voiced by James Arnold Taylor.
The story follows the new crew as they find a rather odd artefact that is synced to Peter Quill's DNA. Reports from Screenrant said that the artifact then opens up as a treasure map that leads to a weapon known only as the Cosmic Seed. The weapon is said to be capable of giving birth to a new universe. The Guardians is now tasked in keeping the seed from the hands of evil. Villains like Thanos, the trickster Loki, the Collector, the Grandmaster, and a resurrected Ronan will come after the crew and their precious cargo. Peter Quill and his crew will eventually destroy the weapon to keep it from falling to villainous hands.
The television series is reported to fill in the void. Under no circumstance will it be related to the next movie. IGN's reported gives fans the lay-out of Disney's plans:
