Amir Khan and Keith Thurman have something in common; both fighters want a crack at Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Amir Khan has long been hoping that he gets the nod as Mayweather’s opponent this coming September 12 but thus far, the undefeated boxer has not made any official announcement.

Thurman is somehow vetoing himself, another fighter who now joins the long list of fighters who are practically saying ‘Pick Me!”

That though is left up in the air but how about if both fighters face each other?

It was back in April when WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman fired the opening shots, calling Khan a soft cherry picker. Thurman is aching to face Khan, something that could easily happen since both Thurman and Khan have the same adviser - Al Haymon.

“Amir Khan ain’t ready for Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman, because if he was ready, we would do it tomorrow, son. I’m here, baby. Come get it. Man, you soft, boy” says Thurman in an interview with thaboxingvoice.com. Watch the video below.

A Khan vs. Thurman match is possible if Mayweather opts to face someone else in September. And the British boxer is open to the idea saying that he would be definitely interested in facing “One Time” provided he wins over his upcoming foe, Luis Collazo.

Ironically, Khan defeated Collazo on May, 2014 via unanimous decision and Thurman is looking to come out with a more impressive victory when he faces Collazo this coming Saturday.

Thurman (25-0, 21 by KO) is a heavy favourite over the former world champion Collazo (36-6, 19 KOs) which will be held at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida. The fight will be telecast via ESPN starting at 9 PM ET/ 6 PM PT.

Between the two, Khan has been pegged to be the boxer likely to gain the nod. Regardless, Khan shares some insights on how Thurman would fare just in case he gets the chance to fight Mayweather.

“We’ve seen Mayweather in with guys who can punch like Marcos Maidana and [Saul] Canelo Alvarez and handle them so I think the public want to see something different. Styles make fights and Floyd has seen Thurman’s style before" says Khan in an interview with boxingnewsonline.net.

So rather than hoping for a fight with Mayweather, a match between the two (Khan and Thurman) could be something interesting. Both are on the upswing and with a lot of bad blood stemming from trash talk in the air, it will be interesting who between the two will (convincingly) triumph.
