Television's favourite time lord is back for the 9th season of "Doctor Who." Peter Capaldi, who plays 'The Doctor' in the British science-fiction television series said he quite excited about the coming season, as reported by Master Herald.
Walking down memory lane, "Doctor Who" was first aired back in 1963. The series ran for 26 seasons but was cancelled due to falling viewer numbers in1989. A television film was aired in 1996 on Fox network as a co-production between Fox, Universal Studios, BBC, and BBC Worldwide. The movie garnered 9.1 million views in UK but failed to tickle the fancy of American viewers, thus it did not lead to a series.
Finally, after nine years of absence, "Doctor Who" was revived and the plot was continued back in 2005. It has spawned eight seasons ever since.
The series follows the adventure of an alien from the planet Gallifrey, known only as the rogue Time Lord, The Doctor. He fled his planet using a Mark I Type 40 Time and Relative Dimension in Space (TARDIS) time machine. This device allows him to travel through space and time. The machine's 'chameleon circuit', which allows TARDIS to take the shape of inconspicuous objects, was damaged. This means the time machine can only take the form of a blue British police box.
The Doctor usually travels with a human on his adventures as he is fond of planet Earth and its inhabitants. He often finds events in history that piques is interests while trying to stop villains such as the Daleks, the Cybermen, and another renegade Time Lord, 'The Master, from changing the course of human history.
As reported by Cinema Blend, Capaldi teased fans by saying that 'The Doctor' is about to make a mistake with cataclysmic repercussions. "It places the 'Doctor' in a conflict that is central to his being, as well as containing some subtle tributes to the '60's, and truly wonderful guest performances" according to Capaldi.
Guest performances will include Michelle Gomez as the rogue Time Lord, Missy a.k.a 'The Master'. Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver will also appear as Kate Stewart and Ozgood. Game of Thrones actress, Maisie Williams will also make an appearance as a mysterious character in the episodes "The Girl Who Died" and "The Woman Who Lived." Capaldi adds that there will be a mix of monsters both old and new, which he describes as "very scary."
Doctor Who Season 9 is scheduled for the 2015 Fall schedule on BBC America and BBC One in the UK.
