While everyone is eagerly awaiting who Mayweather plans to fight this coming September, the undefeated American boxer took time out to take some potshots at his last opponent, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
To recall, Mayweather won via unanimous decision over Pacquiao last May 2 when both fighters faced off in what was billed the ‘fight of the century’ at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Though the fight left many disappointed, seeing Mayweather apply his usual defensive tactics and pinpoint hits, the fewer punches thrown by Pacquiao was something that had many thinking.
And it was at this point that the cat was let out of the bag, revealing that Pacquiao fought with an injured right shoulder. Such sparked a big uproar among fans, cursing Pacquiao for withholding his injury rather than coming out in the open.
Mayweather was initially open to facing Pacquiao again next year once he is fully recovered. But after the celebrated claim of the Filipino boxer fought with a handicap, Mayweather retracted his statements and called Pacquiao a sore loser.
Since then, nothing has been heard of between the two. That was until recently when Mayweather put up a video via his Instagram account mocking Pacquiao for his celebrated claim.
Mayweather is seen talking to a punching dummy, which by all means was meant to represent Pacquiao.
“So Manny, you out here telling people that I didn’t win fair and square,” Mayweather was quoted as saying as he grabbed the dummy’s shoulder. “That this little arm is messed up. Is that right?”
Of course, there was no pun intended. Mayweather was just trying to have some fun, something he did say at the end of the tag line.
Pacquiao can return to the ring by 2016. While there are no plans yet, there are some who are clamoring for a rematch. But that can only happen if Mayweather agrees.
Mayweather’s September fight is supposedly his last one. He did mention the names of Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield though most people feel that the flamboyant one was just messing with people who are eager to find out who his next opponent would be.
Amir Khan still looms as the logical choice despite the many names being thrown in the mix.
Other names being tossed include that of Shawn Porter (which he shot down), Kell Brooks and just recently Timothy Bradley Jr.
