Director of the first Thor movie, Kenneth Branagh, will not be returning for the third instalment of the series. Fans of the first movie will be disappointed as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shrug off the rumours.
During the press day for the Ant-Man movie, Feige had spoken to Collider about the rumours that Branagh coming back as false. The Marvel Studios President says that they will announce a director or filmmaker by the end of summer.
The first Thor movie introduced fans to the mighty prince of Asgard, Thor. The Thunder God was portrayed as a proud and arrogant warrior. By his side is his brother (or half-brother), Loki, mischievous and cunning, along with the Warriors Three (Hogun, Fandral, and Volstagg). During the ceremony in whichThor was to become king; the Thunder God was humbled by Odin All-father and sent to Earth without powers or his magical hammer, Mjoilnir.
Meanwhile, Loki discovers his true identity as the son of Laufy, the king of the Ice Giants. Conflict between the brothers surface as Loki seeks revenge for his alleged betrayal and wants to claim the throne. Thor wouldn't have any of his brother's folly as the conflict reaches Earth (Midgard). An intense battle ensues and the two brothers threaten to destroy all of the nine realms. The fight ends with the rainbow bridge being destroyed and Loki being lost in the abyss. The aftermath shows Thor has yet to find a way back to his beloved Earth and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
The second movie revolves around the discovery of the Aether, one of the infinity stones. This ancient power falls into the hands of Jane Foster accidentally; which subsequently awakens an ancient enemy of Asgard, the dark elves. These events eventually lead to the death of Thor's mother and the two brothers eventually working alongside each other to extract vengeance. The sly trickster then manages to fake his death and lay claim to the throne after the enemy's plot was thwarted.
Chris Hemsworth will still lead the movie as the God of Thunder and hammer wielding Thor. Tom Hiddleston's Loki may not see much screen time in Thor: Ragnarok as a more sinister super villain looms from the dark unknown. Our favourite mischievous villain in green takes a step back as Thanos pulls the strings towards the destruction of Asgardian's home world.
As reported on VC Post, Thanos has two options on how to raze Asgard. On way is to send out the giant fire entity, Surtur, much in the way as he sent Ronin in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Option two takes a more hands-on approach as Thanos has to do the job himself, which has not happened so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
"Thor: Ragnarok" will start filming by 2016 and will air by Nov 3, 2017.
