Mexico has always been one of the frontrunners when it comes to the annual Miss Universe pageant. But due to Donald Trump's immigrant and racists comments, Mexico decided to drop out from the competition.
It was confirmed by former Miss Universe Lupita Jones that there will be no Miss Mexico in the next Miss Universe pageant, if there will ever be one in the first place. Mexican television giant Televisa also announced that they will no longer broadcast the Miss Universe pageant and do any kind of business with billionaire Donald Trump. This decision comes right after the mogul made harsh immigrant and racists comments about Mexico and its people.
"As a Mexican, I feel very offended and indignant like everyone else, as Miss Universe I think Donald Trump is doing great harm to the organization. Miss Universe is a contest with a great history in the world, which has been characterized by convening countries to participate in an event where friendship and unity is prominent, breaking down cultural barriers," Jones stated.
"It's a shame that because of his racist comments we lose what the competition has promoted and represented for so many years in an atmosphere of harmony and peace among nations; therefore, and in accordance to the statement by Televisa, we will not participate in Miss Universe," Jones added.
Latino Fox reported that Trump's "disrespectful" remarks left the whole Mexican population offended. A spokesperson of Televisa said that the company "strongly rejects all forms of discrimination, racism and xenophobia."
Televisa is the most recent company to cut out their support on Trump and his Miss Universe organization. On Monday, NBC Universal also announced that they will end their business relationship with Trump.
"At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBC Universal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump," said the network in a statement.
In another report by NBC News, in response to NBC's dropping, the businessman called the network "weak" and "foolish." Trump filed a $500 million breach of contract against Univision and also threated legal action against NBC.
"We will not only vigorously defend the case, but will continue to fight against Mr. Trump's ongoing efforts to run away from the derogatory comments he made on June 16th about Mexican immigrants," Univision said in their statement.
In a recent tweet from his official Twitter page, Donald professed his love for the Mexican people but said "they are not our friend."
"I love the Mexican people, but Mexico is not our friend. They're killing us at the border and they're killing us on jobs and trade. FIGHT!" Trump said.
