Twitter users broke the internet Friday as the Supreme Court decided to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.
Marriage equality is the perennial civil rights battle of this era. Since 2004, all but 13 states have allowed gays to marry, and those that didn't either cited religious beliefs or the United States Constitution for their stance. Similar sentiments have been shared by social media users opposing SCOTUS's ruling.
Same-sex marriage proponents argue that neither church nor state should interfere in individuals' love lives, using hashtags #lovewins, #lovetrumpsall, and #loveislove to show their support.
Some of the opinions shared are heartwarming, other heartbreaking, and some even funny in light of the day's significance.
Here are some of the most impactful tweets following the landmark decision.
Don't agree with the ruling today but my Bible calls me to love my neighbor as myself. So Christians be a light and let God be the judge.

There was a time when the #SupremeCourt was the most respected branch of our government. Now, they are shameless political activists.
