According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors were hired to show up on Donald Trump's presidential announcement to pose as supporters for his campaign. The actors were allegedly paid $50 after the event for less than 3 hours of work.
The allegations started when blogger Angelo Carusone posted an article online that he recognized the man in an Instagram post from the real estate mogul's presidential announcement. He said that the man, identified as Domenico Del Giacco, with a woman, said to be Courtney Klotz, is a background actor posing at the event. As of the moment, Del Giacco and Klotz did not respond for a comment and Del Giacco has deleted his Instagram account, THR reports.
An email from a New York company "Extra Mile Casting," with the help of "Gotham GR," seeking actors to attend a big event, which happened on Tuesday, has also surfaced. In the email, the sender has indicated that the event is in support of Donald Trump and his presidential announcement.
The event was called "People for a Stronger America" and it was devoted to encourage all of Trump's latest project. The email also indicated that casted people will carry signs and wear t-shirts to support Trump in his announcement.
"We understand this is not a traditional 'background job,' but we believe acting comes in all forms and this is inclusive of that school of thought," the email reads.
THR tried to reach the company for comment via phone. "We don't know anything about that," said the person who answered the call. The person added that she is not allowed to give comments and hung up. THR tried to contact the company again but the calls were no longer answered.
Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who was also asked for comments regarding the controversy, said that the company "Extra Mile" is not familiar to him. He also defended that Trump usually draws a big audience. "The crowds are large, often record setting and enthusiastic, often with standing ovations," Lewandowski added.
