First Lady Michelle Obama came bearing gifts for Prince George and Princess Charlotte as she visited London before going to Italy. The first lady arrived with her 2 daughters, Malia and Sasha, as well as her mother, Marian Robinson.
According to The Week, Obama brought an Amish rocking chair and a tailored Alpaca blanket for babies for Princess Charlotte and a Berlin Flyer P-Wee Wagon made in America for Prince George. The gifts are traditional American items that the royal kids can someday pass down to their own children.
The embassy did not mention if Michelle Obama personally gave the gifts, or handed them to Prince Harry when they met for a cup of tea and to discuss the "Let Girls Learn" initiative. A report from US Magazine stated that the meeting was held in Kensington Palace and that Prince Harry was very happy to meet the first Lady, her daughters and her mother.
After having tea with the prince, Obama visited the Mulberry School for girls to meet with students and discuss how to improve the education worldwide. "Maybe you read the news and hear what folks are saying about your religion," she said. "And you wonder if anyone sees beyond your headscarf to see who you really are, instead of being blinded by the fears and misperceptions in their own minds. And I know how painful and how frustrating all of that can be."
Before the meeting with the students ended, the first lady told kids that their school will be able to give them everything they need to fulfill all their dreams. Both the United Kingdom and the United States have agreed to develop every girl's access to education. The project, totaling almost $200 million, will fund community-based programs, leadership camps for girls and training worldwide.
Obama was on a 2-day trip with her daughters and mother to promote girl's education when she visited the Prince for a tea. Before she left, she was also able to meet with Prime Minister David Cameron and Samantha, his wife, to promote the same project.
"There are 62 million young women like all of the girls here and around the country who aren't getting an education, and their potential is just being lost. And we can't afford that," said Obama.
