Ariana Grande finds support in Selena Gomez after her feminist statement. The two female artists take a stand against being labelled as someone else's property.
The "Break Free" singer recently posted a statement about being labelled as just being someone's ex-girlfriend. Ariana was clearly not happy being referred to as Big Sean's ex rather than addressing her as her own self. For this reason, Ariana used her Twitter account as s platform to express her thoughts on the matter, according to Hollywood Life.
"Being 'empowered' is not the same as being a 'bitch' HAVING SOMETHING TO SAY is not the same as HAVING A BAD ATTITUDE. What I meant when I said what I said about not being Sean's ex is that I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man's past, present, or future PROPERTY / POSSESSION. I... do not. belong. to anyone. but myself. and neither do you," Ariana posted.
With such strong statements, Ariana found support in Selena Gomez. The former Disney star is coming to Ariana's defense by posting how proud she is of Ari, M-magazine reports.
"Thank you @ArianaGrande for telling them you don't belong to nobody but you. Finally. Preach girl," Selena Gomez posted.
Both young stars have had relationships that ended publicly. Ariana recently split with Big Sean and Gomez has been separated from Justin Bieber for more than two years but is still referred to in most occasions as "Justin's ex."
Ariana is also recently linked to One Direction member Niall Horan but the 21-year-old singer quickly dismissed the rumor and said that she is more than happy to be single.
"I'm saying this after literally 8 years of feeling like I constantly had to have a boy by my side. After being on my own now for a few months I am realizing that that's just not the case. I have never felt more present, grounded, and satisfied. I've never laughed harder or had more fun or enjoyed my life more," Ariana said.
Meanwhile, Gomez has not dated anyone seriously since her split from Bieber. Her rumored romance with DJ Zedd was recently questioned after Diplo claimed it was just a marketing plot to sell records. The "Come And Get It" singer is also rumored to be reuniting with her ex-flame after they were seen attending the same church service. Gomez and Bieber reunited in a short Snapchat video that quickly went viral.
