Will Miguel Cotto and Canelo ‘Saul’ Alvarez finally reach an agreement and get into the ring?

If everything falls into place, former world boxing champion and promoter Oscar Dela Hoya believes so. In fact he believe that it would be a better fight to watch and won’t be expensive to watch.

Apparently, Dela Hoya is referring to the supposed ‘Fight of the Century’ back in May 2 which saw Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao square off. As everyone knows by now, Mayweather scored a unanimous victory over the Filipino boxer though many were disappointed at how the fight progressed.

Dela Hoya apparently believes that Cotto and Alvarez will offer a better fight, an explosive one at that.

Cotto and Alvarez would have originally happened on May 2, 2015 had negotiations bogged down. The camps of both boxers were in talks as early as December, 2014 but nothing positive came out of those talks.

With both fighters coming off impressive wins on separate foes, Dela Hoya is hoping that the fight will finally happen.

Alvarez is coming off a stellar third round knockout victory over James Kirkland held last May while just recently, Cotto came out with a fourth-round TKO win over Daniel Geale to retain his WBC middleweight crown.

With both hacking out knockout victories, will that happen should both fighters finally face off?

Before getting ahead, it would be best to note if the fight will happen at all. There is talk that the fight may take place in September though there are some who are keeping a close eye on Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.

Cotto has been singled out as the reason as to why the May fight did not prosper, setting up his demands and forcing his opponents to give in to his demands. In a way, such is the same scenario likened to Floyd Mayweather Jr. before eventually agreeing to fight Manny Pacquiao last May.

Though Cotto did call out Alvarez after his TKO win over Geale, many are still apprehensive. Could negotiations run smoothly or will Cotto have his own set of demands which Alvarez may or may not agree to.

There is no question that a Cotto-Alvarez matchup is something many would want to see and a brawl and fierce exchange is expected from the two fighters. Both are not afraid to mix it up and such could be a delight to boxing fans.

However, the most crucial point, as Dela Hoya stressed, is that fans don’t have to pay $100 to watch.
