Although Matthew Vaughn has stepped down as director or X-Men: Days of Future Past, Bryan Singer has risen to the helm of the franchise once more in his stead, reports Deadline.
Singer's portfolio includes The Usual Suspects, X-Men, X-2, Superman Returns, and the upcoming Jack the Giant Slayer. Vaughn, who directed X-Men First Class and Kick Ass, will now act as a producer for the film.
Marvel creative consultant Mark Millar spoke to Total Film and spilled a few details about the direction of the film: "[The director] is going for a big sci-fi thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past. It's X-Men meets The Terminator. You've got robots, you've got time travel, you've got superheroes-it's got everything in one film."
Millar's mention of robots may allude to the inclusion of sentinels in the First Class sequel, but only time will tell if the mutant-killing machines make an appearance in the film.
In concern to the budget, Millar notes, "cost-wise it's going to go up, and ambitious-wise it's gone up."
According to Comic Book Resources, the storyline is based off of a 1981 story arc that "depicts a timeline created by the X-Men's failure to prevent the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants from assassinating a U.S. senator. In that alternate future, the giant robotic Sentinels have become the de facto rulers of the United States, where mutants are hunted down and placed in internment camps."
X-Men: Days of Future Past will bring back much of First Class's cast, including James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Jason Flemming.
Look for the film in theaters when it releases on July 18, 2014.
