"This is my first selfie and it's for an amazing cause!...Thank you all so much for helping support Andrew Wilson and his family," Mendez shared on her Instagram.
The Cuban-American actress shared her first Instagram selfie on Wednesday to help raise awareness and give financial support to 17-month old Andrew Wilson Wratten, who is currently battling cancer.
Mendez, in her selfie, is seen wearing a T-shirt printed with a message "Hope and prayers for Andrew Wilson." She also promised to offer the shirt, with her signature on it, to any person who is able to donate within the next 48 hours.
Donations can be made through the link that she posted on her bio.
In a separate post, Mendez also shared the boy's picture captioned with "This little guy, Andrew Wilson Wratten, is full of smiles, a ball of energy and VERY special to me."
She also expressed her sympathy to the family for going through the challenge of seeing their little boy endure cancer treatment.
Little Andrew is diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer, a form of cancer affecting mostly infants and toddlers.
Being involved in a plight against cancer has become more than just an advocacy for Mendes. Early this year, her brother, Juan Carlos was diagnosed with the disease.
In a fundraising event, Stand Up to Cancer, held in January of this year, Mendes shared about how she, along with her family, copes, to help her brother battle the disease.
"We're here because someone in our family or someone close to us has been affected by this insidious disease," Mendez said.
Stand Up to Cancer is a charity event presented by Entertainment Industry Foundation. The event is spearheaded by CAA agent Jim Toth and his wife, Reese Witherspoon.
Mendes is currently in a 4-year relationship with one of Hollywood's finest actors, Ryan Gosling, and a mother to daughter Esmeralda.
Aside from being a film actress/model, Mendez is also making a name for herself as a fashion designer. She is set to launch a new cosmetic line called Circa, as Houston Chronicle reported.
Circa is a professional quality cosmetic brand that aims to target multicultural sectors. Mendes serves as the brand's creative director. The brand will offer about 133 cosmetic lines including liquid foundation, illuminating concealer, cream blush, eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, lip gloss and lipstick. The products are priced at around $9 to $14.
This venture is her first collaboration with retail giants, Walgreens and Maesa.
