New York City Evacuations and Closed Roads
Yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg evacuated Zone A areas of New York City, which are displayed below.
In an address on Monday, the mayor announced that public schools will be closed on Oct. 30 because "there's no chance that mass transit will be back in time to serve people." In terms of roads, the FDR, Bronx River Parkway, Holland Tunnel, Hugh Carey Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, and westbound lanes of the Goethals Bridge have been closed. Bloomberg reiterates, "More bridge and tunnel closings throughout the city are very possible." New York City is under a coastal flood warning until 3pm on Tuesday. A high-wind warning will persist until 6pm tomorrow.

Long Island Evacuations
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has issued an evacuation order for the flood and surge areas displayed below. Mangano advises residents to use the following evacuation routes: Peninsula Blvd, Long Beach Rd, Meadowbrook Parkway, and the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. Shelters have opened their doors at the Nassau Community College, Levittown Memorial High School; Locust Valley High School, and SUNY Old Westbury.
The county notes that flooding will peak on Tuesday between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and surge again from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Deadly 85 mph winds will begin by 3:00 p.m. and last for 12 hours.
Suffolk County has opened shelters in the following locations: Hampton Bays Secondary High School, Sachem East High School, Brentwood Senior High School, Robert Frost Middle School, Riverhead High School, Eastport/South Manor Jr/Sr High School, and East Hampton High School.
Independent shelters are located at Bellport Middle School, Mattituck High School, Southold High School, Greenport High School, Oyster Pond High School, Fishers Island High School, and Southold Town Resources Center Mattituck.
