News is circulating that "NBA 2K16" and "WWE 2K16" are already in the works and will officially be launched in the fall of 2015.
Xbox Achievements reported that the earnings report of Take-Two in its financial year confirmed that the two titles will become available in autumn 2015. "NBA 2K16" will be launched sometime in the fall, most likely in October, although the available platforms are yet to be announced. "WWE 2K16" is scheduled to be released on October 27 and will be playable on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
There are also rumors that the Career Mode storyline of "NBA 2K16" might involve film director Spike Lee at the helm. The game is said to feature the tagline, "A Spike Lee Joint" and "Be The Story." Lee was credited on the game cover. His involvement in "NBA 2K16" was rumored since March and he was said to have been in San Francisco working on an NBA video-game activity.
A number of cover photos leaked in April 2015 by Polygon featured the taglines. There were several covers presented, showing reigning MVP Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, James Harden of the Houston Rockets and Kevin Durant of the OKC Thunder. An anonymous representative from 2K Sports verified that the cover images were authentic but refused to comment, based on another Xbox Achievements article.
Xbox Achievements stated that "WWE 2K15" will most likely continue on the same track, with Visual Concepts and Yukes working together to further improve the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.
Game Spot wrote that the announcements of the two upcoming league-based titles were made on May 18, 2015, during Take-Two's fiscal fourth quarter earnings report. Take-Two reported that "NBA 2K15" shipped 7 million units while "WWE 2K15" shipped 3 million units. "NBA 2K15" was among the largest revenue contributors.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, said, "Our strong fourth quarter revenues and better-than-expected Non-GAAP profits marked an outstanding close to one of our Company's best years ever. During fiscal 2015, we seamlessly launched five triple-A titles for the holiday season led by Grand Theft Auto V and NBA 2K15; added an exciting new franchise with the successful release of Evolve; and achieved record digitally-delivered revenue, including our highest-ever revenues from recurrent consumer spending. Our business generated significant cash flow and, as a result, we ended the fiscal year with $1.1 billion in cash and short-term investments."
