Hurricane Sandy continues to pour over the Mid-Atlantic States, with New York and New Jersey to experience the worst of the brunt tonight.
New York City is already preparing for the worst as all public schools have closed, MTA buses and trains suspended, and street closures.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered the Holland Tunnel and Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to close at 2 p.m. today. The tunnels are located under Zone A, designated for mandatory evacuation.
Zone A includes, according to NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
The Bronx: City Island, coastal area of Throgs Neck, and other patches of the South Bronx.
Brooklyn: Coney Island, Manhattan Beach, and Red Hook and other areas along the East River.
Manhattan: Battery Park City and stretches of the West Side waterfront and of the Lower East Side and East Village in Manhattan.
Queens: The Rockaways, Hamilton Beach and Broad Channel
Staten Island: almost all the coastal areas of the borough.
Bloomberg will have a press conference on Hurricane Sandy at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
