The former princess of pop is about to have her own video game.
In an article by GameSpot, Britney Spears recently partnered with Glu Mobile to create a video game based on the "Baby One More Time" singer. The deal for a new game title will last for five years, with an option to extend three more years after.
Niccolo de Masi, CEO of Glu Mobile shared the news on Spears' signing with them during an earnings call on April 30.
Glu Mobile also reportedly said that Spears will maintain "creative influence" over the game to some extent. As part of the agreement, Glu Mobile can use the singer's likeness and voice. According to the game creators, the game allows players to "interact with Britney and experience the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry."
The game is set to launch in the first half of 2016 worldwide and playable on various mobile devices, based on the same Gamespot report.
Glu Mobile has worked with other singers and celebrities in the past to create games. Katy Perry also announced a similar transaction with the company in February this year, in a five-year contract that will feature the singer's likeness, personality and voice on Android and iOS gadgets. This game will reportedly be out in the second half of 2015. Glu Mobile had also worked with Kim Kardashian to make "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood", which became highly successfully, raking in $74.3 million in revenue since it was released in June 2014, according to TIME. Another major star, Lindsay Lohan, also has her own video game, "The Price of Fame", developed by Space Inch and released late in 2014. The celebrity-based games can be played on iOS and Android devices.
Glu Mobile and other game developers seem to be targeting highly popular female stars in letting gamers experience the glitzy Hollywood life. As GameSpot explained, Spears is one of the most successful pop singers in the music industry, having sold over 100 million albums worldwide. She's also one of the top celebrities on social media, with 39 million fans on Facebook and 41.7 followers on Twitter. Kardashian and Perry similarly command millions of followers on social media.
Since she first appeared in the music scene over a decade ago, Britney Spears' fame has not waned. AFP reported that the pop singer continues to perform and was even hired to do her show, "Piece of Me", in Las Vegas. She also released her latest album, "Britney Jean" in November 2013.
