Taylor Swift on Sunday took the center stage at the 50th Academy of Country Music Awards wherein she was awarded the Milestone award. The one who presented her trophy was no other than her mother, Andrea, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. In her speech, Andrea spoke proudly of her daughter who she loves dearly.
"For many years, I was her constant companion. And I witnessed a young girl with very few friends become one with many, learning to stand up for herself and the things she believes in. Being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity, having a voice against those who hate, and giving of herself to those in need," Andrea said in her speech, as reported by Time magazine.
"I am a very proud mom...I want to thank the entire music community for taking such good care of her. And to the fans: I know you love her as I love her. And for that, I thank you eternally," she added.
During her acceptance speech, the "Shake It Off" singer thanked her fans as well as the country music industry for their continuous support despite criticisms to her recently released pop album "1989."
"You showed me who you are with the grace that you accepted that with," Pop Sugar quoted her saying. "I learned how to treat people with kindness and respect from country music," the singer added (as quoted by RAM Country). Taylor's dad Scott was also spotted during the event.
Andrea also shared Taylor's inspiration for her hit song "Love Story." "Her dad and I strongly disapproved of a certain young man. And rightfully so...But she was mad, she was real mad, and so she went to her room and she closed the door. And she came out about an hour later with a song called 'Love Story'," Andrea was quoted as saying by Entertainment Weekly.
