After failing to get into any NFL team at the veterans combine, Michael Sam was recently axed from "Dancing with the Stars" on April 7.

TMZ reported that the first openly gay player drafted in the NFL became the third contestant to be eliminated from the dancing show. Previously Charlotte McKinney and Redfoo were taken off the show.

Fox News reported that during the show on Monday night, Sam performed an emotional dance, inspired by his own background on how his father would not accept his homosexuality. It was "My Most Memorable Year" night on the show and Sam decided to share how his father abandoned his family.

According to Sam, he gave his father a second chance but the latter still destroyed everything, particularly in 2014, when Sam admitted that he was gay. His dad reportedly felt humiliated about his circumstance. After that, Sam said that he told his father that he lost a son again and that they have not spoken since.

Based on a report by Us Weekly, Sam was also asked why his father rejected him. He replied that he actually does not know and cannot speak for his father. He said that only his dad can speak for himself.

After the revelation, Sam proceeded to dance rumba with professional dancing partner Peta Murgatroyd to the tune of "Not My Father's Son", taken from the musical "Kinky Boots". Sam was obviously touched by the song and message that he cried after the performance.

For his efforts, Sam attained his highest score in all three times that he performed on the show, garnering 30 out of 40. He was, however, the lowest scoring contestant that night and was forced to leave the show.

He said after the show, "It wasn't tough at all. I'm glad I got to share a moment and have my best scores. It was a powerful moment and I'm glad I got to share it with everybody."

He said that it is his belief to always smile regardless of the circumstances. Sam said that he was not upset about the results since he got better scores compared to his previous performances and had a great time, based on the same report by Fox News.

Sam said, "I had a great time. I'm so blessed to have a girl like Peta to be my dance partner. I wanted the trophy for her but I had a blast. I have no complaints."
