It looks like 'Vampire Diaries' actress Nina Dobrev might still be on board for playing the lead role in the film adaptation for E.L. James' erotic thriller bestseller '50 Shades of Grey.' The 23-year-old actress spoke to Access Hollywood during the 2012 Elle Women in Hollywood event and said that she would consider taking the part.
"I think it comes down to and depends on the script, always, no matter what. If it's a good script and a great director, who knows?" the actress said. Dobrev has been named as one of the top fan picks for the role of Anastasia Steele. The Bulgarian-born Canadian actress, who has admitted to not having read the series, has seen stiff competition in the running to play the innocent, yet sexy, lead role.
Fellow actresses Alexis Bledel, Mila Kunis, Emma Watson and Lucy Hale join Dobrev as fans' top picks for the role. Other top contenders include Emilia Clarke, Amanda Seyfriend, Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Olsen and Shailene Woodley.
In an ongoing poll for the role of Anastasia Steele by Latinos Post, 'Gilmore Girls' actress Alexis Bledel continues to dominate among voters with 30.6 percent of the votes. She's followed closely behind by Mila Kunis (15.9 percent), Emma Watson (14.2 percent) and Nina Dobrev (12.1 percent).
Speculation for the role of Christian Grey has also run rampant with several actors in the running to play the dominating millionaire role. Dobrev's boyfriend and 'Vampire Diaries' costar, Ian Somerhalder, has battled head-to-head with 'White Collar' actor Matt Bomer among voters.
Actors Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling, Jared Padalecki and Alexander Skarsgard join Somerhalder and Bomer among those picked by fans for the role. In this week's poll by Latinos Post, Somerhalder has take a slight lead with 33.6 percent of the votes. He is followed very closely behind by Matt Bomer (20.8 percent) and Jared Padaleki (17.5 percent). In an ongoing poll last week, Bomer bested Somerhalder with over 44 percent of the votes.
It may be some time before fans of the erotic thriller find out who will play the coveted roles of Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele and company. The film is currently in its pre-production phase and has only recently hired screenwriter Kelly Marcel ('Terra Nova') to write its script. The Universal Pictures and Focus Films movie also counts on producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti.
A release date for the first film in the series, '50 Shades of Grey,' has yet to be announced.
