Adrian Peterson's future with the Minnesota Vikings continue to cast doubts among NFL fans and experts.
iSportsWeb reported that the running back stated that he feels uncomfortable about returning to the Vikings lineup because of the manner that he has been treated by some organization members.
Peterson recently expressed through his agent Ben Dogra how he felt betrayed. It is very unlikely that the two sides will settle their differences before the 2015 NFL draft. The Vikings currently have Peterson under contract so the team has the option to trade him during the NFL draft, most likely in exchange for another first round pick.
Based on a report by Sports World Report, if Minnesota decides to trade Peterson during the offseason, he might end up with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams or Washington Redskins.
The Vikings are not bound to pay Peterson until the 2015 NFL season begins. He is technically under contract with Minnesota for three years, valued at an unguaranteed $45 million. Currently, coach Mike Zimmer said that the team wanted Peterson in their lineup for the upcoming season and added that they expect him to honor their contract.
The Dallas Cowboys seem to be preparing room for Peterson. NBC Sports reported that quarterback Tony Romo recently restructured his contract to allow the Cowboys $12.8 million in cap space. It may be coincidental that Peterson is also set to earn $12.75 million in 2015. Other NFL teams with young or average quarterbacks might want to consider Peterson to improve their offense.
Fansided reported that it may not be a good idea for the Cleveland Browns to acquire Peterson. The Browns have young backs namely Terrance West and Isaiah Cromwell, and Peterson could help beef up their offense as the two mature.
However, it may not be worth trading a second round pick plus cash for Peterson. Peterson has the ability to upgrade the team in the short term, but he will be depriving West and Cromwell of carries. The Browns might be better off drafting a player who can work with the team in next several years, as well as save them more money.
Peterson might be better traded to the Dallas Cowboys or Arizona Cardinals. For now, everything depends on the Vikings whether they would like to gamble on the running back despite their issues. If they decide to hold out or trade Peterson, Minnesota might use their pick on promising backs like Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley.
