Kelly Clarkson has gotten a lot of public attention recently for her weight gain apparently but in addition to that some media personalities have gone to the extent of scrutinizing the American Idol winner's weight live on air.
People reported that anchor Chris Wallace appeared on The Mike Gallagher Radio Show, making criticisms about Clarkson's weight with Gallagher.
In an audio transcript, Gallagher was heard saying:
"Listen, don't fat shame me. You do a lot of fat shaming,"
"That's the new phrase now, 'fat shaming.' Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow, did she blow up."
In return, Wallace responded to the host's comments:
"Really? Do we want to talk about some of your friends?"
"Kelly Clarkson's got a lovely voice."
"She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while."
Wallace's Fox News host colleague, Greta Van Susteren, did not hide her disappointment on the harsh comments. On her blog, Van Susteren wrote on Friday:
"This 'guy snickering' about her weight is obnoxious. He should apologize."
In a guest appearance at The Ellen De Generes show on Friday, Clarkson shared insights about the public attention she gets about her body:
"I think what hurts my feelings for people is that I'll have a meet-and-greet after the show and a girl who's like bigger than me will be in the meet-and-greet and be like, 'Wow, if they think you're big I must be so fat to them.' And it's like, you're just who you are."
The singer revealed to Ellen that she's often received harsh comments about her weight since she won American Idol in 2002, as reported in The Daily Mail:
"I was the biggest girl in the show, too. And I wasn't big, but people would call me big. Because I was the biggest one on Idol and I've kind of always gotten that."
Clarkson then went on to hint about the comments that a British media personality made about her body:
"People are like, I'm so sorry that lady in London was so mean to you. And I'm like, are you serious? Like get in line."
English media personality, Katie Hopkins, recently referred to the singer as a "chunky monkey."
Clarkson has admitted to struggles she's experienced in maintaining her ideal weight. An Access Hollywood article reported the singer as saying:
"Sometimes we're more fit. Like, especially me,"
"I'm such a creative person that I yoyo. So sometimes I'm more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don't and I'm like... I'd rather have wine."
