Two nights after a very intense debate, President Obama and Mitt Romney put aside their differences and made fun of each other.

The occasion was the Alfred E. Smith Dinner, the Catholic Archdiocese of New York charity benefit that hosts presidential candidates every four years.

Obama started the roast when he took a jab at Clint Eastwood's bizarre conversation with a chair at the Republican National Convention.

"Everyone, please take your seats, otherwise Clint Eastwood will yell at them," the president said.

Obama even made light of the dinner, which is held in the middle of the hectic presidential debats.

"In less than three weeks, voters in states like Ohio, Virginia and Florida will decide this incredibly important election, which begs the question, what are we doing here?"

Poking fun at himself, Obama said the reason for his weak performance during the first debate was because he was asleep.

"This is the third time that Gov. Romney and I have met recently," Obama said. "Some of you may have noticed, I had a lot more energy in our second debate. I felt really well rested after the nice long nap I had in the first debate."

"As it turns out, millions of Americans focused in on the second debate who didn't focus in one the first debate. And I happen to be one of them."

Romney's speech focused more on Obama. He did, however, open with jokes about the way the media perceives him.

"A campaign can require a lot of wardrobe changes - blue jeans in the morning, perhaps, suits for a lunch fundraiser, sport coat for dinner - but it's nice to finally relax and wear what Ann and I wear around the house," Romney said.

He also made fun of the potential awkwardness of meeting Obama again after such a heated debate earlier in the week.

"I'm glad to be able to be able to join in this venerable tradition. I'm pleased that the president's here. We were chatting pleasantly this evening as if Tuesday night never happened."

He brought Vice President Joe Biden in the picture, joking about Biden's laughter during the vice presidential debate.

"I was hoping the president would bring Joe Biden along this evening because he'll laugh at anything."

Romney threw a low blow at Obama, Sesame Street and the deficit, which garnered a mixed reaction from the audience, but they couldn't help but laugh.

In the spirit of Sesame Street, the president's remarks tonight are brought to you tonight by the letter O and the number 16 trillion.

Rounding his set out, Romney then acknowledged the "biased" media coverage of his campaign.

"I never suggest that the press is biased. I recognize they have their job to do and I have my job to do. My job is to lay out a positive vision for the future of the country and their job is to make sure no one finds out about it."

"I've already seen early reports from tonight's dinner. Headline: Obama embraced by Catholics, Romney dines with rich people."
