The first two Iron Man films were smash hits at the box office and the third should be equally successful.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, have officially released the synopsis for the third installment in Tony Stark's journey.
"Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?"
The villain referred to in the synopsis is none other than the Mandarin who was revealed back in July during Comi-Con International in San Diego. During that event, Robert Downey Jr. (who plays Tony Stark), showcased some footage for the upcoming film including a new Iron Man suit. Guy Pearce was also shown in a new suit. According to Comic Book Resources, he could be another villain in the film. Iron Patriot was also hinted at in the trailer as well. The end of the trailer showed off the Mandarin. Ben Kingsley has been confirmed to play the villain.
The film is directed by Shane Black who is stepping in for Jon Favreau who is now acting full time in Iron Man 3. The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, and James Badge Dale
The film will hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
