Despite Adrian Peterson's agent's contradicting statements, it seems like the running back will remain on the Minnesota Vikings roster at the start of the 2015 NFL season.
NBC Sports reported that Peterson's agent previously stated that his talent wants out of Minnesota. However, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer clarified that they have to set their personal issues aside and focus on playing football. Zimmer said that he respects Peterson and the things he has done for the community. He continued that the team is looking forward to having him back. The coach seemed surprised about the statements of Peterson's agent.
Zimmer pointed out that Adrian is still under contract for three seasons with the Vikings, which means that his personal issues should be set aside to honor the deal.
Zimmer said, "That is always the number one thing to get him in the backfield with [quarterback] Teddy [Bridgewater], [receiver] Mike Wallace on the outside, [receiver] Charles Johnson the outside, [tight end] Kyle Rudolph inside. That's always been the situation we want to be in."
SB Nation reported that should the Vikings decide to let go of Peterson, the Dallas Cowboys would be willing to pick him up, after they lost DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles recently. Minnesota would also be able to save $13 million in 2015 and a total of $32 million for the next two years.
Meanwhile, there have been talks that Philip Rivers may be traded by the San Diego Chargers.
However, NFL.com reported that the team has no plans to let go of Philip Rivers in the offseason. There were previous talks that Rivers might be traded in exchange for Tennessee Titan's No. 2 overall draft pick, but the team made it clear that they were keeping the quarterback.
Tom Telesco, general manager of the Chargers, confirmed at the NFL Annual meeting that they are not even considering a trade involving Rivers.
Telesco said, "He's our guy. Like I've said before, we'd like to extend him. And when he's ready to do that, we'll get moving on it."
Chargers coach Mike McCoy also confirmed that Rivers will stay with them for the 2015 NFL season. He said that Rivers is one of the best in the business and has been playing exceptionally well in the past two seasons, based on an ESPN report.
McCoy said, "The only thing I'm worried about is this next season. We can't worry about 2016 and beyond. He's under contract for this year, and we plan on Philip Rivers retiring a Charger."
