Director James Wan has just confirmed that he is now working on the script of "TheConjuring 2." In an interview with Collider, Wan said:
"I've been working very heavily on the script, and the idea of continuing the saga of Ed and Lorraine Warren is actually very exciting. So the idea of going back to kind of nurture my baby that I created is part of the reason why I'm going back to do 'The Conjuring 2.' And in some ways it'll be like a holiday break for me after this film."
According to the report, the film production will start later this year as the release date is slated for June 10, 2016.
Working on the script of "The Conjuring 2" would not stop Wan from pursuing other things. He said that there might be a possibility of him directing a DC Comics Universe film.
"While I do Conjuring 2 my plan would be to start setting up and finding that next big film that I want to jump into...Yeah it's weird. Continuing that family tradition, [Warner Bros. is] like that and it's almost like they're very old school in that respect, which you don't see much of anymore," Wan was quoted as saying.
It is still unknown what exact movie is he pertaining to but Screen Rant noted that there were some rumors before saying that Wan could be the director for "Doctor Strange," "Aqua Man," or even "Green Lantern."
"The Conjuring 2" has already been confirmed earlier, following Deadline's exclusive report. Initially, the sequel was set for an October 23, 2015 release but was later moved to 2016. The report also talked about Wan's recent deal with New Line Cinema. Aside from "The Conjuring," Wan is known for other hit movie franchises "Saw" and "Insidious." He is also the producer of "Annabelle" and the director of the upcoming "Furious 7" movie.
"We had a great experience with James on 'The Conjuring', and we give him a lot of credit for that movie working so well...He worked on the screenplay and came to the table with very inventive things that were not in the script and cast it fantastically well. Add to that his work in producing 'Annabelle', and he is one of the masters of the genre and we're happy to have him. You go through the list of possible directors of 'The Conjuring' sequel, and his is the name you stop at, which is why we tried so hard to make this work," Toby Emmerich, New Line president, was quoted as saying in the Deadline report.
"New Line has always been a big believer in great filmmakers emerging from the horror genre, and he has the potential to grow like Frank Darabont did, from writing 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 3' to writing and directing 'The Shawshank Redemption'...James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He's the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one," Emmerich further told Deadline.
