The subtitle "Rogue One" has just been announced hours ago and yet speculations about the new upcoming "Star Wars" stand-alone movie have already hit the web. Bob Iger, Walt Disney chairman and CEO, has earlier announced during Disney's annual stakeholders' meeting in San Francisco that the new movie to be directed by Gareth Edwards is set to hit theaters on December 16 next year, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
According to a Screen Rant report, Felicity Jones and Tatiana Maslany have already been confirmed to play the lead roles in the upcoming first "Star Wars" spin-off movie. It also said that the script for this movie is "already in place" but is still being revised by Chris Weitz.
Here is a part of the official Star Wars statement: "'Rogue One' is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz). The first actress cast is Felicity Jones, who garnered an Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim for her performance in 'The Theory of Everything.' The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. He will executive produce along with Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds). Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) are on board to produce and John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will co-produce. The film starts shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16, 2016."
A concept art for the upcoming movie have been allegedly shown at the recent official Disney event. However, explanations or some descriptions did not accompany the said art pieces, leaving us with no idea on what we're looking at.
Stitch Kingdom however has something to say about it: "Although I'm quite shocked it hasn't been released yet, my personal take on it was it evoked concept art of a video game. It personally screamed Halo to me. It was very dark and done in greens, so it evoked the idea that it was being done under the cloak of night. Dozens of figures in fatigues appeared to be storming something with a strange helicopterish vehicle (open on the sides) in the background, releasing more troops."
Screen Rant said it is likely that fans would be able to see the concept art sometime soon. It also noted that this concept art does not necessarily mean that this is what the movie would look like as this may just be a simple illustration.
