Justin Bieber may be regularly seen around Floyd Mayweather, but he insists that he is not the boxer's sidekick.
TMZ reported that the Canadian pop star refuses to admit that he is Mayweather's right hand man. Bieber was in front of Greenblatt's Deli on the Sunset Strip on March 11, 2015. He was with Mayweather at the news conference with Manny Pacquiao to promote their May 2 super-bout.
In the video, Bieber was asked, "Are you gonna be Mayweather's sidekick during the fight?"
Bieber answered, "I don't know about sidekick, but I'm definitely going to..." He continued posing and taking photos with fans outside the deli.
Inquisitr reported that the photographer continued to ask, "You're his lucky rabbit..." The photographer said that Mayweather could not win without Bieber by his side.
Bieber said, "Again, I don't know about rabbit..."
The interviewer finally apologized for using the "wrong term".
Justin replied, "Oh no worries, no worries. It's all good. Have an awesome night." He proceeded to step into his car.
However, Bieber may be right in saying that he is not Mayweather's sidekick after reportedly betting $2 million in favor of Pacquiao. Movie News Guide reported that the singer believes that the Filipino has a chance to win against the undefeated American. This would contradict his former actions in 2012 when he openly showed his support for Mayweather and even poked fun at Pacquiao's fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. Philippine lawmakers even wanted to ban the singer from the Philippines and be declared persona non grata, based on a Telegraph report.
Bieber said in a report by Manila Live Wire, "I think and realize though that Manny Pacquiao has a chance to win and beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in this coming mega fight and I will be putting my $2 million for sure on the WBC and WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao."
Despite the bet, Bieber is clearly rooting for Mayweather. Fox Sports reported that Bieber even photobombed Mayweather during his press conference. In the video, Mayweather and Pacquiao were preparing to have their photos taken when Bieber suddenly walked up the stage to join them. Bieber gave Mayweather a hug and took a photo with the top fight promoters of both sides.
For years, Bieber and Mayweather have remained close, often posting photos of themselves indulging in their rich lifestyles. Mayweather was even spotted giving Bieber boxing lessons in his gym. Fans will have to wait and see which corner Bieber will be at on May 2.
