The 38-year-old Mayweather is currently training hard in Las Vegas and is looking to win by knockout again on May 2. Photographer and owner of HustleBoss.com Chris Robinson said on March 8 that Mayweather has been very focused and intense during training, even KO'ing a sparring mate in the process.
Robinson said in a CBS Sports report, "Floyd doing his thing. He dropped one of the guys with a body shot."
Though Mayweather usually win by KO or TKO during his younger years, it has been four years since he last scored a knockout. Out of his 47 wins, Mayweather has 26 knockouts including a controversial knockdown against Victor Ortiz in 2011. Previously, he also knocked down Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009 and out Ricky Hatton in 2007. In his two fights against Marcos Maidana in 2014, Mayweather was more physical.
Marc Livitz of SecondsOut.com said about Mayweather to CBSSports.com, "Maidana made him fight for his life last May, regardless of the 'I fought that way for the fans' schtick. [Mayweather's] known to beat the crap out of his sparring partners. Swarming Pac would not be the answer because I still think that despite the fact that Pac is now powerful on each side -- he can still be outboxed."
According to Livitz, Pacquiao may be the opponent that will force Mayweather into the most physical fight he has ever been in. Livitz said, "An aggressive mindset may lead to a more 'tit-for-tat' style of contest, where he'll get more on the receiving end."
In another CBS Sports report, Manny Pacquiao is also preparing hard for the May 2 mega-bout.
Pacquiao told PhilBoxing.com, "If it's defense he will be relying on when we face each other, I can say this early that I'm ready to meet him in that department."
He added, "We've actually been figuring out how we can penetrate the defensive blanket Floyd would throw at me since we opened camp in General Santos two or three weeks ago."
Pacquiao continued, "And I think we already have an idea of what offensive maneuvers we would utilize. As I have been saying since we opened camp, we will be concentrating on finding the flaws in his defense and I think, too, we've discovered a lot."
Rappler.com reported that the odds gap between Floyd and Pacquiao continues to draw closer in Las Vegas as a number of notable boxers and experts side on Pacquiao winning by knockout in the past few days.
