MMA New York 2015: UFC Planning Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir Fight in Brooklyn [Rumors]

Mixed martial arts might make a return in New York, featuring Brock Lesnar versus Frank Mir.

Bloody Elbow reported that Lesnar was last seen in the front row beside UFC president Dana White at UFC 184, which started talks that the former heavyweight champion might make a comeback in the Octagon.

Wrestling Observer reported that Lesnar talked to White two days before UFC 184 that he will be at the event. Frank Mir was speculated to be the first person that Lesnar would fight if he makes a return. Mir hinted about the possibility of facing Lesnar the night before Lesnar stated his issue with Vince McMahon of WWE. He described a potential match against Lesnar as his greatest profile fight.

Fightland reported that a Lesnar-Mir match would finally put the long-time rivalry between the two to rest. The two had great battles before Lesnar had to exit the sport to take care of his diverticulitis.

There were more talks that the strained relationship between Lesnar and McMahon will ultimately result to the former losing his WWE World Heavyweight belt after WrestleMania 31 later in March 2015. If Lesnar has to make a decision, Wrestling Observer cited that he will only be considering three organizations - UFC, WWE and Viacom.

WhatCulture reported that the UFC is currently still banned in New York. The last time an MMA event was held by the organization in the city was in 1997 with UFC 12. However, new developments surfaced that might finally legalize the sport in New York, giving leeway for a Lesnar-Mir match at the Madison Square Garden. The event may also feature a double main event with Jon Jones versus Chris Weidman, who are both from New York.

At present, everything is still in speculation. Lesnar has to make a decision first. He indicated that he wanted an MMA clause in his contract. He previously walked out at his last appearance on Monday Night RAW and was then seen beside White on February 28 at UFC 184. There is also the possibility that he might work in UFC and WWE if his schedule allows and the offers are good.

Another company, Bellator, is also said to be eyeing on Lesnar. However, Lesnar made it clear that he only wanted to fight the best in the top organization. The advantage that Bellator has is its parent company, Viacom, which can offer a huge deal that Lesnar might find difficult to refuse.

Lesnar's next moves are yet to unfold in the coming weeks.
