Some sneakerheads believe that Kevin Durant might have unveiled the latest model in his Nike signature line via Instagram.
NBC Sports wrote that Durant has been struggling in the 2014-2015 NBA season, plagued with a foot fracture that kept him out of action for 28 games so far. He was again back at the doctor's clinic and will remain at the sidelines after undergoing a procedure where a screw in his foot was replaced.
Despite his current physical woes, the OKC forward took some time to joke about his condition on February 22.
Sports Illustrated reported that the reigning MVP posted a photo of a walking boot most likely recommended by his physician to provide his healing foot with more support and protection. Durant added the caption, "Can't wait for the 8s to drop!!"
Sole Collector said that Kevin Durant's signature basketball shoe is currently in its seventh edition, dubbed the "Nike KD 7". In 2014, NBA fans were surprised why the superstar was wearing the KD 6 instead of the newer model. Nike explained that there was nothing wrong with the shoe but Durant found the KD 6 more compatible with his right foot after undergoing surgery.
Brian Strong of Nike said, "We are excited to see Kevin Durant back in competition. KD will be wearing orthotic inserts as he returns from surgery on his right foot. The existing KD 6 shoe design is currently the best solution to accommodate the orthotic. The Nike design team is perfecting the KD7 to accommodate KD's orthotic."
The "KD 8" Durant jokingly featured on Sunday had a black upper and white midsole and outsole. The photo he showed was of a shoe that had a low profile and two large straps that went over the foot to secure it in place. He held the ugly pair in his hand as he took the shot, apparently while in the doctor's clinic.
Social media users were quick to respond positively to Durant's post, wishing him good luck on his recovery. Others also started hypes, tagging others that it was indeed the prototype version of the Nike KD 8, which is scheduled to release later in 2015.
Uproxx reported that fans were reminded of the upcoming colorway of the KD 7 after Durant's funny post. The Nike KD 7 "Weatherman" is set to release on March 5, 2015, featuring Doppler radar-inspired graphics. The predominantly green upper gives reference to the green screens used by meteorologists. The shoe also pays tribute to Durant's love for the weather.
