The latest colorway of the Nike Kyrie 1 is inspired by a venus flytrap.
Nike.com reported that the Nike 1 "Flytrap" will officially release on Thursday, February 26, 2015 in full family sizing. The sneakers will be available on Nike.com, Eastbay.com, Footlocker.com and selected Nike retail outlets and sneaker boutiques. Men sizes will retail at $110. The girl sizes will be priced at $100, the preschool sizes will be priced at $75 and the toddler sizes will be available at $52.
RealtyToday reported that the Nike Kyrie 1 "Flytrap" was designed by Leo Chang, who acquired his inspiration from the carnivorous plant, known for its speed and precision in capturing its prey. Chang compared the venus flytrap's characteristics with the Cleveland Cavalier point guard's quickness and cunningness on the basketball court. The shoes aim to offer features that will allow guards to perform sudden cuts and moves that will outpace opponents.
In addition, Nike.com reported that the Kyrie 1 was made to be light and responsive, providing great traction so that guards can have a quick first step. The low profile, Nike Zoom Air cushioning and Hyperfuse construction are other features that will offer full support, softer landings and fast strides for players. The sneaker features 360-degree dynamic traction pattern so that players never slip when making sudden cuts and crossovers.
Photos shared on NiceKicks.com presented the Kyrie 1 "Flytrap" in a Menta/Emerald Green/Fuschia Flash/White colorway. The shoe is predominantly green, including its upper, half of the midsole, tongue, shoelaces and signature diamond heel. The outsole is fushchia as well as the sock liner. There is a silver Swoosh on the side of the shoe, a fuschia Kyrie Irving logo on the tongue and a green #2 on the back, representing the point guard's jersey number. Kyrie's signature also appears on the back of the tongue in green. More Kyrie Irving logos are found on the insole and middle of the outsole.
The distinguished characteristic of the shoe that gives it the venus flytrap-like appearance are the mint green and fuschia colors on the front portion of the midsole, which look like the plant's jagged teeth ready to devour its prey.
The Nike Kyrie 1 is the point guard's first signature shoe. Irving is the latest NBA star signed by Nike and included in its signature basketball series. Compared to the signature shoes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant, the Nike Kyrie 1 "Flytrap" is one of the cheapest available in the brand.
