The Nike Air Mag with power laces may finally be released in 2015.
The pair became popular when they were worn by Michael J. Fox, who played Marty McFly, in the film "Back to the Future: Part II". As we all know, this film turn out to be one of the most iconic films not just of its genre, but also of the century.
CNet reported that Nike designer Tinker Hatfield aims to make the shoes with power laces available before the end of 2015. Though there were versions of the Nike Air Mag released with the lights in 2011, they didn't have the power laces and were not as fully functional as Hatfield intended. The power laces, as shown in the movie, had the ability to lace up automatically. Hatfield is also the creator of the original pair worn by Fox in the 1989 film.
Business Insider wrote that Hatfield confirmed at the Agenda Emerge event in Long Beach, California that his team is currently working hard to deliver the Nike Mag in 2015, featuring the power laces. He also reminded fans that the 2011 version is still available and there are still several months left in 2015 to work on the pair.
Fans of the movie know that 2015 is an important year for the Nike Air Mag and "Back to the Future" because it is the year when Marty McFly and Doc Brown were sent to by their time machine.
Nice Kicks presented how the self-lacing system of the Air Mag can actually work. The system is located in the midsole of the shoe and can be activated by simply pushing a button found on the outside. A type of cog and pulley system is then activated, which will automatically tighten the four strap-like laces on the front. The shoes in the film are grey with hints of white. There is a "Nike" branding on the strap that goes over the tongue and lights up. On the midsole, there are also a couple of blue lights and three smaller red, green and yellow blinking lights, giving the sneaker a very modern look. The Nike Swoosh is found on the side.
There is still no news regarding the price of the Nike Mag but KPopStarz reported that fans expect these to be expensive, although not as pricey as the 2011 models. There were 150 pairs auctioned off in 2011 to help raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The winning bids garnered over $5,000 per pair. Hatfield also did not announce whether the shoes will be available on a limited basis or put on general release.
