There is no specific date yet, but according to IGN, the free-to-play tank combat game, "World of Tanks" will be released for Xbox One sometime in 2015, as announced by Wargaming via a trailer on Tuesday. The game features early to mid-20th century era of fighting vehicles and built as a freemium business model (making it free-to-play) but with premium features.
According to the website, the battle server for "World of Tanks" will have a cross-platform play for Xbox One and Xbox 360, which means that players can fight each other no matter which generation console they're using as the game is set to have both systems share content and updates to its community members.
In a review, IGN mentioned that the game is "a rare combination of hardcore attitude and pick-up-and-play accessibility that's as effective on the Xbox as it has been on the PC," making it a rather rewarding game to invest in.
Available to Xbox Live Gold Members as a free download, other in-game purchases are made available, and those who are upgrading from their Xbox 360 to Xbox One can still use their accounts for the in-game progress made. After all, "World of Tanks" progress include vehicles, experience, credit, gold, and items that are tied to Xbox Live accounts. With the cross-platforn, players will no longer need to go back and forth between consoles.
The International Business Times noted that "World of Tanks" debuted as a PC game in 2011 in North America and held a Guinness World Record for being the game with the Most Players Online Simultaneously in one MOG server, with 91,311 players online its Russian Server in January 2011. It was then released for Xbox 360 in February 2014.
According to Inquisitr, the Xbox One edition will have graphical upgrades, but the extent is yet to be announced. However, what little is seen from the trailer shows that ground textures and foliage appear enhanced, as does the tanks.
Inquisitr also noted that "World of Tanks" is the latest in a stream of free-to-play games to be released on Xbox One. Other games coming to the new generation console include Happy Wars and Neverwinter, as well as APB: Reloaded.
While we still have to wait for the arrival of "World of Tanks," Major Nelson has listed other games to keep Xbox owners occupied with the free games available to XBox Live Gold Members this February. Among these games are "#IDARB", and "Sniper Elite V2" which are free for the entire month. A new list of games will be available for March.
