"The Walking Dead" could add a new cast as Ben McKenzie expressed his desire to join the production even as a zombie, E! News reported.
The "Southland" star, who is now the lead of "Gotham," recently reunited with his co-star Michael Cudlitz. During their encounter, they shared their secrets.
"[Ben's] a really good guy, very talented and I'll work with him again," said McKenzie's former cop partner in "Southland." He added that they have planned for Cudlitz to play as a villain in "Gotham," while McKenzie takes on a role in "Walking Dead," but only as a dead walker.
McKenzie was supportive of this "Walking Dead" cameo suggestion: "I will totally do that!"
"Mikey, you got it, buddy... Knowing Michael, he'll want to decapitate me with... what's that thing?! [Laughs] I was gonna say Ginzu knife! Katana! A katana," added McKenzie.
With this idea, Kristin Dos Santos from E! reached out to "Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. Hurd told her there were a few stars who have already asked to do a walker cameo on the show. Sadly, "it's really not something the show can do."
"There have been many who've asked," Hurd said, "but the truth is, if we start doing that, then people start saying, 'Hey look for me! I was a walker in The Walking Dead!' And that's a distraction from what we believe is a character-driven storytelling in which the walker should not be the focus."
Hurd also shed new light in the Beth and Tyreese situation. She said, "They need a goal and as Michonnne said, they need to find a place to rebuild a community. And what a journey that's been for her, the one character who was most loner of all the people other than maybe bob, to now say, we've got to find a place that we can settle down and stop just being on the road."
So far, Dos Santos have not reached out to "Gotham" producers just yet to ask of Cudlitz could fill in a villain part.
McKenzie and Cudlitz remained friends even after the shooting of "Southland."
"Southland" is a story of police officers "working for the Los Angeles Police Department," according to IMDB. It is a crime-thriller series that has received high praise from the viewers, with a rating of 8.5.
Michael Cudlitz and Ben McKenzie were joined by Shawn Hatosy, Regina King, C. Thomas Howell and Arija Bareikis in the cast.
The show ended on Oct. 8, 2013, as stated by the Archive Of Our Own.
