The latest talks involving a mega-bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao surfaced, citing that the two boxing superstars have finally agreed to a $250 million fight purse.
However, Mayweather has yet to sign the contract.
Washington Post reported the fight will be the richest and biggest in the history of boxing if it happens. Previously, Pacquiao already agreed to a 60-40 split, with Mayweather getting the lion's share. There were rumors that Mayweather will finally sign the contract during his visit in New York City for the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend.
An insider shared that Pacquiao has already signed his part of the contract and has even began training for the supposed May 2015 bout. The camps are only waiting for Mayweather to sign his end of the deal.
The Telegraph wrote that one source close to Pacquiao shared that there is nothing more for Pacquiao to do in terms of the contractual agreements. Everything is left now for Mayweather to sign. Other details of the fight have already been ironed out such as the venue. Both camps agreed that the match will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Also, the fighters agreed that they will both wear eight-ounce gloves and submit themselves to pre and post-fight drug testing.
Although negotiations stalled in January 2015, fans were again optimistic that the fight is drawing closer than ever when Pacquiao and Floyd personally met in Miami to discuss the match details. Negotiations between the two camps have failed in the past five years and even Bob Arum, Top Rank chairman, voiced out his concerns that Mayweather may not have really wanted to fight Pacquiao. Fox Sports reported that there have been conflicting reports as to which parties want or do not want the fight to happen.
Dan Rafael of ESPN tweeted, "#MayweatherPacquiao deal is nearing finish line one way or other but 2 sources involved said it is NOT done at this point."
If a match ensues, HBO/Time Warner, who has Pacquiao under contract, and CBS/Showtime, who has Mayweather under contract, will most likely air a joint pay-per-view event in the same manner that made a dream bout between Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis possible in 2008.
If negotiations fail once more, Mayweather will most likely proceed to fight Miguel Cotto instead while Pacquiao will battle former sparring mate Amir Khan. At this stage in their careers, if a big fight does not happen between Mayweather and Pacquiao now, it will probably never happen.
