Snow sports enthusiasts will have something huge to look forward to in Central Florida.
The Washington Post reported that Xero Gravity Action Sports revealed on February 10, 2015 its plans to create an extreme sports-themed resort near Kissimmee, Florida. Reportedly, the resort will cost $309 million to build and span 75 acres of land owned by Central Florida Investments Inc. It will feature a variety of attractions and tourist spots, such as a luxury hotel, a snowball fight arena and a 14-storey ski and snowboard mountain with nine snow tubing lanes.
Orlando Business Journal reported that Xero Gravity Action Sports, which is based in Atlantic Beach, shared some of the facilities and activities that visitors can expect from the Osceola County resort. The park expects over one million guests to come every year. The new resort will open jobs for 1,000 people.
The Washington Post also revealed specifivally some of the attractions of the proposed resort, which will cater to children, beginners and extreme athletes alike. There will be a surf pool spanning five acres with waves of up to 10 feet, a boogie boarding area, two skydiving pods, an indoor/outdoor skateboard park covering 25,000 square feet, a USA-BMX sanctioned race track, a rapid river, an indoor dodge-ball trampoline area spanning 20,000 square feet, and an interactive four-story climbing/zipline/ropes challenge course. There will also be a couple of water slides with a height of 14 storeys, a rock-climbing area with heights of up to 140 feet, zip-lining activities throughout the park and jump zones where guests can experience free falls from 20 to 120 feet.
Orlando Business Journal also wrote that extreme sports park will also feature a 250-room Hyatt-flag hotel with a rooftop pool and bar, a day spa, swim-up bars and grottos, a 2,000-seat amphitheater, cabanas, swimming pools, retail facilities, restaurants, sports bar and the International Action Sports Hall of Fame.
Larry Walshaw, CEO and founder of Xero Gravity, said, "Our company is creating the next step in the tourism sports industry. We are developing a one-of-a-kind sports and entertainment resort which provides unique hands-on experiences. We will be hosting televised pro and amateur competitions, think X-games, with sports shows and clinics, and we will have daily competitions at all venues for visitors who like to compete."
Currently, the company executives are still dealing with and waiting for the approval of Osceola County officials. The name of the extreme sports resort is yet to be announced. If approved, the project will commence and the park will most likely open in 2018.
