NBA players are known for their swag and style in and out of the court, which triggered the creation of the very first NBA fashion show.
TNT announced on February 10 that it will exclusively air the much-anticipated fashion show, dubbed "NBA All-Star All-Style" for New York Fashion Week from February 12 to 19. The competition will be hosted by Shaquille O'Neal with NBA stars Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, WNBA star Elena Delle Donne, designer John Elliot and GQ editor Will Welch sitting as judges. Comedian Kevin Hart will also be at the event to provide commentaries and witty quips.
Bleacher Report wrote that the fashion show contest already has its own logo, with the iconic figure of Jerry West customized to put him in a suit and wearing shades. "NBA All-Star All-Style" might become an annual activity on All-Star Weekend if it proves to be highly successful.
A number of NBA players will be working the runway, namely DeMarcus Cousins, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Klay Thompson and Zach Lavine, based on a report by Huffington Post. The NBA stars will be walking with supermodels such as Chanel Iman and Erin Heatherton, who also appear in the 2015 Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated.
Yahoo! Sports wrote that there is no confirmation yet as to who the remaining NBA players are but there are speculations that the league's most stylish like Russell Westbrook, Nick Young, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James may walk the runway too. NBA players are not entirely new to fashion, with some appearing on the cover and pages of magazines like GQ, Vogue and Style. Some fans were, however, skeptical about the judging panel, considering how Barkley and Smith's styles are quite different compared to Donne, Elliot and Welch.
There will be three categories to guide the judging panel. The first category is the boardroom wear, the second features night out attire and the third features game attire. There will be a total of eight competitors to walk the first round, but only four will advance to the second round. From the second round, only two will advance to the finals.
Chron reported that "NBA All-Star All-Style" will be produced by Springhill Production Company, owned by LeBron James and presented by Samsung Galaxy. The show will happen for one-hour on Friday, February 13 at the Hammerstein Theater in New York. The NBA fashion show will exclusively air on TNT on Saturday, Valentine's Day at 5:30 p.m.
