"Wolverine 3" is still in the midst of preparation and planning, but now, news has popped up that the film might be featuring a new hero team up between Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Coming Soon reported.
"Wolverine 3," which has yet to receive its official title, is the third film in the "X-Men" franchise centered around Wolverine a.k.a. Weapon X. The official plot and cast has yet to be finalized in the wake of other "X-Men" films undergoing or beginning production. While leading star Jackman is expected to return (though he has yet to officially sign on as the titular hero), rumors have it that he might end up being joined by none other than Stewart, also known as Professor X in the movie.
During an interview with Oregon Live, Stewart said, "What I'm very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together."
He added, "That would be a very different sort of 'X-Men' from the four movies that I've already done."
Stewart also briefly shared a tidbit about another upcoming "X-Men" film, "X-Men Apocalypse," clarifying the news shared previously by Ian McKellen, who plays Magneto, that the both of them will not be appearing in the film.
"I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next 'X-Men' movie," he shared. "Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it."
He also mentioned that shooting was set to begin soon in Montreal.
Going back to Jackman, the actor is known for taking it a movie at a time, so his involvement is still technically up in the air. However, he is said to be working on the script with director James Mangold and writer David James Kelly for "Wolverine 3," according to Screen Rant.
Reports also have it that the actor was hoping to shoot the films back to back with "X-Men: Apocalypse," to make it easier on his demanding workout training and regimen, as well as for the sake of making sure the connection between both films remain consistent.
There are also speculations that this might be Jackman's last appearance as Wolverine. However, if the storyline between Wolverine and Professor X does not end in their joint film, they might consider making one more.
"Wolverine 3" is slated to come out on March 3, 2017. It will follow the slew of "X-Men" movies coming out the year prior. "X-Men: Apocalypse" will come out in May, while two spinoff films will also premiere, "Deadpool" in February starring Ryan Reynolds and "Gambit" in October starring Channing Tatum.
