Recent reports are saying that "Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson had some fights with E.L. James, author of the book from which the movie was adapted.
Vulture revealed that the two indeed had some "screaming matches" due to some creative differences. The report, which cited Porter Magazine, said the fight might be due to the deleted sex scenes in the movie.
Here is what Taylor-Johnson said in her Porter interview:
"It was difficult, I'm not going to lie...We definitely fought, but they were creative fights, and we would resolve them...We would have proper on-set barneys (barneys is a British slang for arguments)...it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualize this person on screen."
According to Cinema Blend, Kelly Marcel, the movie's screenwriter, earlier revealed that she was doing a script that would definitely have an NC-17 rating. Obviously, this would mean that the first plan was actually to incorporate most of E.L. James' ideas into the movie. But this did not happen as most of the sex scenes were deleted in the movie. Just like lead actor Jamie Dornan, Taylor-Johnson pointed out the real importance of the movie -- that it is a romantic love story which does not just focus on sex.
Johnson said in an earlier interview with Variety that there was indeed a lot of sex in the first draft but they ended up cutting it for the movie to get an R-rating, which it eventually earned. Movies with R rating have "strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language."
Even Dakota Johnson herself admitted in a recent interview with Glamour magazine that being tied into a bed was "stressful" and that she experienced "some painful moments." These painful moment, she shared, was when she got whiplash."
The movie revolves around the story of a college student named Anastasia Steele and businessman Christian Grey. The movie is based on a book with the same title. That trilogy is "one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever" and is translated into more than 50 languages worldwide.
The movie's cast list also includes Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian's brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia's close friend; and Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia's best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian's mother; and Rita Ora as Mia, Christian's sister. The movie also stars Max Martini, Callum Keith Rennie, Jennifer Ehle, and Dylan Neal.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" will be out in theaters this Valentine's Day.
