NBA Trade 2015: Roy Hibbert to OKC Thunder or Phoenix Suns? [Rumors]

Talks of Roy Hibbert possibly being traded by the Indiana Pacers began circulating in November 2014, after his offense took a turn for the worst.

Sports Illustrated wrote that in January 2015, the Pacers have been aiming to give Hibbert's game a lift. He has not been a very effective shooter in the second half of the season but coach Frank Vogel said that his defense was a huge contribution for the team.

Vogel said, "And that's what we needed from him. Look, he wasn't getting many touches. We know that. He became a defensive center, a Dikembe Mutombo of sorts. That's why a lot of the criticism of him was unfair; he was doing what we needed him to do."

Currently, there are speculations that the seven-foot center may be transferred either to the Phoenix Suns or OKC Thunder. Fansided reported that before the 2014-2015 NBA regular season started, the Pacers and Suns initially discussed the possibility of trading Hibbert for guard Goran Dragic. The Suns in the end did not take the offer. There is, however, still some room for both teams to re-negotiate as the trade deadline draws closer.

The Phoenix Suns might keep Dragic until the playoffs. The Suns do not really wish to part with Dragic but might succumb if the right offer comes along. He is also expected to test the free agent market. The Suns will definitely beef up their defense by acquiring Hibbert, although there is also some risk in sacrificing a potent shooter in exchange for Hibbert's inconsistent offensive skill set. Currently, the Suns has Alex Len at the center position, who can conveniently be replaced by Hibbert if the trade happens.

In the same Fansided report, Hibbert, together with Chris Copeland, might be traded to Phoenix for Dragic and P.J. Tucker. Copeland will be helpful, providing long range shots off the bench.

Fansided also reported that the Oklahoma City Thunder may also acquire Hibbert, in exchange for point guard Reggie Jackson or Kendrick Perkins. The Pacers will surely benefit, considering how George Hill, who is more useful as a combo guard, is taking the number one spot. The Thunder primarily wanted Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets, but will do well with Hibbert. Hibbert's solid defense is a good alternative to Lopez's offensive abilities. Putting Hibbert and Serge Ibaka in the frontcourt would also be a huge threat for any opponent.

Until a trade becomes official, Hibbert continues to work on his offensive game.
