The fifth season of AMC's zombie drama "The Walking Dead" is only a little over a week away, but AMC has released a midseason return preview and promotional photos featuring some of the survivors, Entertainment Weekly reported.
"The Walking Dead" will return on Feb. 8 with "What Happened and What's Going On" directed by Greg Nicotero and written by Scott M. Gimple. It will show the fate of the survivors following Beth Greene's death and where the group will go after Father Gabriel's church has been overrun with walkers.
To amp up anticipation for the midseason return, some of the photos of the cast have been revealed to EW. First is Daryl, who will be left dealing with Beth's passing. The two have become close friends and no doubt he will not take her death well.
Another character featured is Eugene, who as many may remember lied to the rest of the group about Washington. Given Abraham's extreme reaction, one can only wonder how the rest of the group will start treating him.
Next is Rosita, who has become close to Tara and Glenn. However, with her loyalty to Abraham, it's unknown how she'll interact with the rest of the group.
Michonne's photo was released to TV Line. One of the toughest in the group with her katana and fierceness, she'll have to find some way to cope with the loss of a friend and also keep the group together.
Maggie's photo, on the other hand, was revealed to Variety, and viewers know that she'll have to find a way to cope with the death of her remaining family member, especially as she never even got to say goodbye.
Gimple already told fans that things were going to end up getting "super hard" for the characters. He said, "We begin in a very dark place and our group is broken by what's happened. And then things change, but who are they by the time things change? That's the question."
He added, "Have they been so hardened that they won't be able to recognize opportunities in front of them?"
Not only that, but following the character photos AMC also released a preview trailer of the upcoming ninth episode, giving fans a glimpse of the fate of the group.
The description of the ninth episode has also been released by AMC: "After all the recent trials the group has faced, a slight detour might prove to be the solution they've been looking for."
"The Walking Dead" returns on Feb. 8 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
