Vine sensation Shawn Mendes will finally have a chance to have his first album.
Mendes' popularity started to grow when he uploaded six-second music clips on the website Vine. His debut single "Life of the Party" was introduced in the summer of 2014 and peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was one of four songs available on "The Shawn Mendes EP", which became available in July 2014.
Billboard reported that the rising pop star featured the title and release date of his album. The 16-year-old said that it will be titled, "Handwritten" and will officially launch on April 28, 2015, although pre-orders for the deluxe album will be accommodated beginning February 2. The album will be released by Island Records. On February 23, Mendes will commence his first headlining tour in Stockholm, Sweden. After, he has a headlining tour in the United States for two weeks in the middle of April, just before the album launches. In the summer of 2015, Mendes will also join Taylor Swift in her North America tour.
Mendes, who grew up in Toronto, gave a preview of his upcoming album with the single "Something Big", which was first heard in November 2014. The song has peaked at No. 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album was recorded in 2014 on his tour bus and will have 12 new songs written by Shawn.
JustJared wrote that Mendes uploaded the cover art of his new album on Instagram and wrote, "Guys ! My debut album #Handwritten is out April 28th ! Pre-Order on iTunes this monday Feb 2nd & Ull get a new song instantly plus 4 more new songs before the album comes out ! #ShawnsAnnouncement".
The cover art featured him in a black t-shirt with a blackboard behind him. On the board are handwritten lyrics in chalk. His name and the album title appear on the bottom of the image.
According to MTV.com Shawn is very excited about this new phase in his career. He said, "I'm so excited for my fans to hear this new music, and so I'll be giving them a ton of new music and videos leading into the release," Shawn told us. "These next few months there will be lots of surprises. I put so much hard work into this and am so excited to share it with the world! It really is true to who I am as a writer and artist, and I can't wait for people to hear it."
